Affordable heat from wood

In 2009, the Native Village of Eyak received funding through Round I of the Renewable Energy Grant to purchase a King Cord Compact 60 log splitter. Eyak Corporation donated old lumber to the project. NVE will contract with a company to cut the old lumber into firewood. NVE will distribute firewood to our elders for free and sell the wood at under market price to the rest of the community. Selling the wood will help fund the operation of the project and ensure it can continue in the future.

After an eventful trip through Canada, the King Cord processor arrived in Cordova in December 2009. We are currently in the process of selecting a winning bidder for the contract and anticipate distributing firewood by fall 2010. We will update this page when firewood is available for sale, as well as advertise through radio, the scanner, and community boards around town.
