Field Camp Support Coordinator

Description

This is a part-time seasonal position, minimum 20 hours per week, May-Aug.  Some weekend work may be required.  You must be willing and able to  travel occasionally up the Copper River to remote research facilities, sometimes overnight. 

Job Duties

  • Communicate with Copper River fisheries research camps by email to determine supply needs, including food, fuel, hardware, lumber and emergency repair needs.
  • Prioritize supply requests and make all purchases within the confines of an established budget.
  • Deliver or arrange delivery of supplies to camps, weekly or as needed for urgent repairs.
  • Track purchases and transportation costs, maintaining a daily budget spreadsheet.
  • Maintain or coordinate maintenance of NVE trucks and boats related to fisheries projects.
  • Maintain clean and well-organized storage facilities and workshop.
  • Travel to camps and assist with maintenance, repairs and sampling as required.

 

Requirements/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)
  • 18 or older (required)
  • Alaskan Drivers License with a clean driving record (required)
  • Computer literacy, including ability to maintain budget spreadsheets, fill out purchase orders, research and order supplies from the internet, and send/receive email (required)
  • Experience skillfully launching and operating jet skiffs in swift glacial river water, including rapids (preferred)
  • Extreme off-road 4x4 skills (preferred)
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment including outboard motors, diesel engines, generators, computers, alternative energy systems, appliances, etc. (preferred)
  • Experience with 12V electrical wiring, satellite communications, radio systems, etc. (preferred)

 

Compensation

Wages DOE. 
Meals and accommodation will be provided as needed when in the field.
