Natural Resources/ Environmental Internship

Description

These are seasonal internships, anticipated at 20-40 hours per week for up to 2 months, May-Sept.  Some weekend work may be required.  You must be willing and able to travel occasionally up the Copper River to remote research facilities, sometimes overnight. Intern exchange programs with other Tribes around Alaska may be available.

Job Duties

  • Work with Director of Environment and Natural Resources and Environmental Coordinator to help meet objectives of all current projects within the Department
  • Assist with updating and re-designing Department website
  • Gain hands-on experience with a wide range of environmental and natural resource projects
  • Travel to camps and assist with maintenance, repairs and sampling as required.

 

Requirements/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma OR High School student who has completed junior year and can provide written letters of recommendation from science teachers and evidence of involvement with science-related extracurricular activities (required)
  • College student with a declared major in a field of science (preferred)
  • Interest in and long-term career goals in environmental science, ecology or natural resource management (required)
  • 16 or older (required)
  • 18 or older (preferred)
  • Computer literacy (required)
  • Experience with Macintosh computers (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word, Adobe Creative Suite, and Dreamweaver (preferred)
  • Alaskan Drivers License and clean driving record (preferred.  Must be 18 to drive NVE vehicles)
  • Experience working in both professional office and outdoor environments (preferred)
  • NVE Tribal Member (hiring preference given)
  • Alaskan Native or Native American (hiring preference given)

 

Compensation

Wages DOE. 
Meals and accommodation will be provided as needed when in the field.
