This is a full time seasonal position, anticipated season being early May through mid-August or early September. You will be expected to live and work full time 7 days per week at a remote research facility on the Copper River. You will be responsible for sampling fish and collecting high quality scientific data, as well as contributing to the daily activities of operating research fishwheels and a remote field camp.
Job Duties
Conduct daily sampling activities, which will include identifying, counting, tagging and/or recording biometrics of sockeye and chinook salmon
Assist in entering collected data into a master database and daily update spreadsheets
Work under the supervision of Camp Lead to provide high quality data to project managers
Assist with maintaining equipment and research facilities, including fishwheels, boats and tools
Requirements/Qualifications
BS or BA in a science related major, OR college student with a declared major in a science related field and minimum 1 year completed coursework, OR 3+ years work experience in fisheries or similar (required)
Proven experience conducting scientific research (required)
Physical ability to work long hours outdoors, with strength and endurance to lift very heavy objects (required)
Experience handling and tagging large adult fish (preferred)
Experience with operating small boats, particularly in swift river water (preferred)
Ability to maintain and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment including outboard motors, diesel engines, generators, computers, alternative energy systems, appliances, etc. (preferred)
